What happened to Corey Ruiz on July 22nd, 2026 was wrong.
I’m having a hard time finding the right words to say in a tragedy. The truth is, there are no words one person can say that will make the injustice go away.
There are so many ways we can all change individually and systemically in order to make things “right.”
The reality of it is that tragedy is something that we face every single day living in the United States of America.
We are Corey Ruiz. I’ve seen people coming together demanding justice and demanding that we collectively do better. Be better. Together.
While it’s a shame that we need trauma to instigate change, it’s still very moving to see our community coming together as they are.
It’s important to remember that there are many different emotions we may be feeling and that we all grieve in different ways. I encourage you not to shy away from the rage and anger but to embrace it. The invitation is to carry the rage together. What the heck can we do with it?

The harm has already been done. We have all had a hand and blind eye to it.
In a world where systemic oppression lurks around every corner...
