Flick, Yona, Reede, Beadle, and Me
The second piece in the Creatures Like Me Collection is titled Flick, Yona, Reede, Beadle, and Me. It is a marker illustration with watercolor paints and embroidered accents is framed by a rug influenced by the first piece. The piece collects together a series of animal skulls next to a human skull, presenting the food chain as equals and emphasizing the idea that we are all just bones at the end of the day. As life comes from death, the bugs crawl amongst the skeletons unknowingly.
This series is inspired by the omnipresence of bugs and other creatures that humans deem as inferior. It inspires the viewer to see these “pests" in a different light, viewing them as creatures like us. This collection had the honor of participation in a show curated by GG of Green Goodies. In the LOUD Gallery, GG curated a beautiful collection of work by various midwest artists all along the theme of the Joy of Learning.
